Dear Senator (last name):
I am a constituent from (your town) who is a parent/grandparent/sibling of (full name), age (years) who has Fragile X syndrome. I am writing to express my fervent support for federally-funded Fragile X research.
Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is the most common inherited cause of autism and intellectual disabilities. It affects about 1 in 4,000 boys and 1 in 6,000 girls worldwide. Most individuals who have Fragile X require full time care for their entire lives, so this disorder is tremendously costly to our society, in terms of dollars and heartbreak.
I am requesting your assistance in increasing funding for Fragile X at the National Institutes of Health.
On behalf of my entire family, and especially my (son/daughter/etc. name), thank you for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
