Brothers Pete and Dave Hall hosted their 33rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Memorial Day weekend. For the fifteenth consecutive year the money raised from this long-standing event has gone to FRAXA. This year’s total of over $28,000 pushes the 15 year total to over $262,000!

As the Bruins took to the ice to score a big win over the Detroit Red Wings, FRAXA volunteers took to the concourse selling 50/50 tickets to fans. This incredible opportunity, made possible by the Boston Bruins Foundation, raised a grand total of $28,040 which was split between FRAXA and one lucky winner!

For the 5th year in row, the Bruins Foundation chose FRAXA as a beneficiary of their 50/50 raffle to benefit a lucky charity. This year’s game was held on November 23, 2019 against the Minnesota Wild. Not only were the Bruins able to take home a win, but FRAXA received half of a whopping $37,000 raised that night!

Over 50 #FriendsofFRAXA showed up on the the day after Thanksgiving, November 24, at the Bruins game against the Pittsburgh Penguins to sell 50/50 raffle tickets. Our amazing volunteers sold $34,938 in tickets resulting in $17,469 donated to FRAXA research. This was the highest amount the Bruins sold this year in raffle tickets!

On Thursday, September 7 over 150 friends of FRAXA joined us at the Smith Barn at the Peabody Historical Society for the second annual FRAXA Fall Fling. Together we raised over $75,000 for Fragile X research — including a hand-delivered check for $25,000! Families from as far away as Miami, Florida joined us, even with hurricane Irma approaching their home state. Unfortunately, Irma ambushed Weather Channel Storm Tracker and Fragile X parent, Jim Cantore.

Fifty friends of FRAXA enjoyed an amazing night at the TD Garden in Boston on March 30. They gathered to watch the Boston Bruins take on the Dallas Stars. It was a great opportunity for us to unite the greater Boston Fragile X community. We were able to convene and thank some of our local families and introduce them to university and biotech scientists who are working to find a cure for Fragile X. The night was made available by a generous donation of the Garden View Room by TD Bank.

With a $90,000 grant from the FRAXA Research Foundation, Dr. Lynne Maquat and Dr. Tatsuaki Kurosaki will investigate nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) in Fragile X. NMD is a “housekeeping” process that cells use to prevent faulty proteins from being made. But there is too much of it in Fragile X syndrome. There are already available drugs that suppress NMD – including caffeine.

Bruins Foundation Executive Director Bob Sweeney pledging a $90,000 donation to FRAXA Research today at Shared Living Collaborative’s Gateway Farm in Merrimac, MA. The award will enable the organization to fund an entirely new research project aimed at developing new treatments for Fragile X, a genetic syndrome that is the most common inherited cause of autism.
